DO DORA WAY: how you and your backpack could make a difference

October 24, 2013 at 4:06pm
Do Dora’s Style
Since College, I’ve always been teased and called “Dora” for carrying huge backpacks when everyone else carries small bags or pouches.
They only teased.
But no one bothered to ask why.
So today, I am going to reveal WHY.

Meet Luntian.
She’s my constant companion, since Uling is now 3years old and very much excited to rest.

Yes. I do name my bags because I consider them as extensions of myself.

So… Meet Luntian.
A High Sierra Impact Backpack.
I carry her almost every day, everywhere, at any given weather and at any given time. (yes. I carry her even if I’m wearing a dress and high heels. Awkward. I know. But I’m used to it.)

Inside Luntian, you will find the following:

Photo

Water Bottle (Reusable, BPA free) – to avoid buying bottled water that contributes (massively) to ocean pollution.
Mess Kit (also Reusable and BPA free) – I normally prepare my own food. Carry veggies or fruits in it. Or just have it handy in case I have to order a take-out. Again, this prevents me from contributing to pollution problem. –thus, reducing my carbon footprint.

Emergency Kit – simply, for emergency. Medicines and emergency stuff. In case the ground just suddenly breaks.
Extra Clothes (at least 1set) – I consider myself a hermit. I go anywhere I want and stay anywhere I want. So, extra clothes must come in handy. But on special occasions, when I accidentally meet a new friend that lives in the street that has no clothes or has clothes, but torn, I give it right away. That’s why my extra clothes are ALWAYS unisex type.

Hygiene Kit – this is a personal must have. My dad taught me not to forget.

Extra Food – Bread, Energy bars, easy-to-open canned goods, biscuits. I don’t carry this stuff to consume.
I carry them because I know that there are people out there who suffer from hunger. Who can’t even buy food. Who can’t even fend for themselves. I carry ready-to-eat food so that I can give them something to eat in case I come across a hungry stomach (which happens every day).

and of course, my ever best friend journal...

so i could write what i see, what i feel, and what i wanted to do every day. :)

If you’ll look inside my bag-buddy, you’ll have a peek into my great dream.
And that is, to have a greener future, and ease (if not end) hunger. –not just hunger of the stomach, but also, hunger of the soul.

Thinking, if we'd just care enough to look around us, internalize what's happening around us...if we'd just dare push ourselves to do something. Just a small, simple, something…
Then maybe… maybe, we could make a big difference.-if we'd all do it together.

The adjustment maybe difficult for some…
Difficult. But not impossible.
